Rita & Tom

I was thrilled to be asked to do the make-up and grooming for Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks at this year’s BAFTAS. Rita is definitely one of Hollywood’s women of substance and there’s a lot I could learn from her.  I prepared her skin with Crème de La Mer Soft Cream, £105.00 for 30ml, it’s my go-to for the Red Carpet as it’s long-lasting and I always spend a few minutes massaging it into the skin. We decided to go for a demi-matte finish and for that I use RMK Liquid Foundation, £33.00, in 104. Her face is paler than her body so I made her face a notch darker to tie in with her body. I used a damp Professional Beauty Blender, £16.00, to apply the foundation all over and then a touch of concealer. I use Cle de Peau Concealer, £44.43, for anyone not in the first flush of youth, it’s a wonderfully creamy formulation – just under the eyes and corner of the nose. I set the make-up in the t-zone with By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder Colorless Hydra-Care Powder, £42.00, it doesn’t sit in the pores and it goes on like velvet – totally invisible.

She looks amazing with stronger eye make-up, so I filled in her eyebrows with Benefit Browzings, £23.50, in Medium to create a frame and then I used a Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow palette, £40, in Iridescent Earth Reflection, using the peachy shade in the inner corner and the taupe on her lids and used the darker bronze shade on the outer corner and underneath her eyes. I used a Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Pencil, £18.00, in Black, under the water line and then the lash line and outer edge. On top, I used Laura Mercier Tight Liner, £19 (John Lewis), in Black Ebony in a fine line near her lashes and winged it out. I curled her lashes with Shiseido Eyelash Curlers, £18.00 and she applied her own mascara – a Lancome Hypnose Mascara, £22.50 in Black. She had her own technique where she “blinked” it on – a new trick that I’ve learned – and it looked great. We finished off with individual lashes from Eyelure, £5.35.

I gently contoured her cheeks and put a hint of Clinique Cheek Pop, £16.60, in Plum Pop ,  buffing the edges with a powder puff to soften it. I used a Dior Lip Maximiser, £22.50 to plump up her lips, then lined her lips with MAC Spice Lip Pencil, £12.00 and finished it with her own lipstick from Tom Ford, £36.00 and added a touch of gloss in the centre of her lips. For a final Red Carpet touch, I used Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid Base in Nude Radiance No.1, £34.00,  sparingly to highlight her browbone, inner corners of the eye, bridge of the nose, top of her cheekbones and her cupid’s bow.
